Chapter 8. Your Home Directory

Your home directory is located in the LMU CS AFS file serving cluster on a dedicated volume. Your volume's disk quota is set based upon your account type and can be examined at any time by the fs quota ~/.

If you exceed your quota, data will probably be lost or damaged. Under most circumstances, your quota is large enough to handle all your computing needs. However you are advised to keep an eye on it if you have recently copied or downloaded a large amount of heavy content.

By default, and necessary for operation of the features of your account (e.g., your web share), the names of the files and directories in the root of your home directory are viewable by anyone with a Keck Account, however the contents of the files are not.

8.1. Automatic Backups

Every night a snapshot is taken of your home directory and placed in ~/Backup/latest. This contains every file as it existed at approximately 4AM, Pacific Time on a given day. Depending upon the amount of space consumed by your home volume, one or more additional dated versions of your home directory may also be available in ~/Backup.
