Chapter 7. Food and Drink in the Labs

The LMU Computer Science Labs Food Policy attempts to resolve the conflicting goals of users who desire to work efficiently and comfortably with the needs of keeping the equipment and lab clean. It can be summed up in the following statement: Clean up your mess and you can eat/drink in the lab. However as with any right it comes with responsibility as well. You are responsible for the effects of any food you bring in the lab.

University Policy prohibits alcohol in academic facilities, and so under no circumstances may alcholic beverages be consumed in the lab.

7.1. LMU Computer Science Labs Food Policy

Users of the lab are personally responsible for their behavior. This means that when you bring food or drings into the lab you are solely responsible for any effects they have on the facilities.

This includes but is not limited to trash, crumbs, condensation, spills and damage to the equipment. Users are generally permitted to eat and drink in the lab, however they should not eat food with their fingers while typing as this soils the keyboard and mouse.

Any food or drink you bring into the lab is your responsibility. You must pay for any and all damage to the facilities caused by food belonging to you. This includes others accidentally spilling or knocking it into equipment. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you limit your consumption to drinks with tightly fitting caps. No exceptions will be made to this rule, regardless of the circumstances.

Your workstation or workspace must be left in the same or better condition than you found it. This means not merely discarding wrappers but washing the desktop to remove stains and condensation. Cleaning supplies are available from the TA on duty.

This policy applies to all, but only to Computer Science Lab Facilties. Other computer labs may have different policies.
